Candidates’ Comments mini-lesson

Homework: Find spoken or written comments by a current political candidate, which you would like to would like to analyze and explore from a rhetorical perspective.  While we encourage the use of videos when available, please make sure you bring a written copy of the comments (e.g., a hard copy of a CNN, Fox, or NY Times article). Please write down the video and/or text link and also send a copy to me via email (wwesley@lths.net).

Tomorrow, using your growing knowledge of rhetoric (e.g., from IPC or notes taken in this class) and the glossary of terms provided on pages 36-38 in The Language of Composition, identify several (2-4) rhetorical elements that you think are important in assessing the comments.

On the paper copy, write three or four annotated comments related to those elements you have chosen to focus on. Be prepared to share your chosen text and your comments in a small group and large group settings.
