One of the quirkier characters is Alfred Doolittle, Liza's dad. He philosophizes about "middle-class morality" quite a bit.

In your own words, answer the following:
What is his attitude towards middle class morality?

What points does Alfred make about the deserving poor and the undeserving poor? Who is treated better, in his opinion? What, in his opinion, is unfair about the system? What argument does he use to support it?

What arguments does Doolittle make for why he would rather receive 5 pounds than 10 pounds?

Which of Alfred's traits impress Higgins?

What does he propose as a possible future career for Doolittle?

What is humorous about Liza's manner of speaking at Mrs. Higgin's house?  Find three lines which are especially funny and explain why they are funny, especially given the context/setting she is in and her pronunciation.

Homework: Read Act IV of the play
